                         What To Sow In June

"Runner Beans"

Runner Bean: Can be sowed outdoors until mid to late June for an October crop.

" Beetroot "

Beetroot: For an autumn crop (Sept-Oct).
Beetroot can be sown until the end of June. Roots should be lifted & Stored in October. If storing place the roots between layers of dry peat in a stout box in a dry shed. Roots should keep until March.

" Brussell Sprouts"

Brussell Sprouts: Sprouts sown in early to mid June will produce a crop for December onwards.

" Summer Cabbage"

Summer Cabbage: These cabbage mature in summer or autumn. Sown in June they should be ready for cutting in September - October. Popular varieties are Primo (Golden Acce) Greyhound & Hispi.

" Carrots"

Carrot: Sow long rooted varieties
(St Valery or New Red Intermediate) in September & October. Remove all carrots from the ground before the first frost.

" Cauliflower"

Cauliflower: Winter Cauliflower is technically not a true cauliflower but heading Broccoli is not as flavorsome as true cauliflower but is easier to grow. Sown in early to mid June it will be ready for cutting in December.

" Leek"

Leek: For an April crop you can sow seed of a late variety in June and transplant out in July. Leeks can remain in the ground until they are ready for use.

" Marrow"

Marrow: Sow outdoors in late May or early June. The immature marrows (courgettes) will be ready to cut in August
(4inches long) or leave until marrows 8-10 long.

" Salad Onions"

Onion: Salad Onions can be sown until the end of July. Remember to sow in small amounts at 3 week intervals.

" Peas"

Pea: For a September-October crop June is the sowing month. You must choose the right type and "Keluedon Wonder" a wrinkled variety is a popular choice.

" Christmas Potatoes"

Christmas Potatoes: A bit of a gamble but something to boast about. When lifting your early potatoes in July set a few small tublers aside. Plant out in a warm sunny part of the garden and cover with cloches in September.

Turnips:Sow a main crop variety from June onwards and begin lifting when ready (tennis ball size).

" Radishes"

Radishes: Sow away in June and for a prolonged supply sow every few weeks.

" Swede"

Swede: Sowing time is late May to early June to be lifted in November-December.
