So What's new in the 2019 Schedule of Classes?
Firstly, you do not have to have a garden to grow vegetables - any tiny outside space will do.........
So, with this in mind, Castlebridge Show has introduced a new class in 2019 - One head of lettuce (any variety) growing in a container - container not exceed 30cm (12") round or square. You will find this at class no. 133 in the Open Horticultural Section and at class no. 163 in the Beginners Section and at class no. 183 in the Parish Section.
A new class in the Fruit Section is class no. 69 - Tomatoes growing in a hanging basket (basket not to exceed 36cm (14").
In the Flowers Section there are two new classes as follows:
In the Flower Arranging Section class no. 76 - Flower Arrangement in a Toy - overall height not to exceed 23cm (9"). This class is confined to Primary School children and there is no entry fee.
In the Flowers Section class no. 89 - Hanging Basket - not exceeding 36cm (14").
Horticulture:
Sometimes, at the Show, we have heard people say that they prefer smaller vegetables (e.g. cabbages) when cooking. So, this year we have introduced some new classes with these cooks in mind - as follows:
Two Table Cabbages (Round or Flat) - Housewife's choice. You will find this at class no. 129 in the Open Horticultural Section and at class no.180 in the Parish Section.
Two Table Cabbages (Pointed) - Housewife's choice. You will find this at class no. 130 in the Open Horticultural Section and at class no. 181 in the Parish Section.
Three Beetroot - each not to exceed 225g (8 oz.) You will find this at class no. 132 in the Open Horticultural Section and at class no. 182 in the Parish Section.
Another new class introduced, following a suggestion from a Show supporter, is class no. 134 in the Horticultural Open Section - Selection of Asian Vegetables - no more than three kiinds (e.g. bok choy, chilli, lemongrass, etc.) Dish/plate not to exceed 30cm (12") round or square.
In the Novelty Section there are two new classes - no. 144 Largest Marrow and no.145 Largest Beetroot.
So, if there are classes you would like to see introduced or changed at the Show why not send in your suggestions and they can be considered for a future Show.
